As a composer, I thought there was. And so, a number of my pre-transition songs included veiled references to my gender issues long before I admitted them publicly. Two songs in particular come to mind. First, Roses House under my stage name of Tarnished Karma about a peeping Tom losing his identity which has lines like: I look through her mirror, The second song is Morning Gold. Morning Gold is a name I gave my female alter-ego in this song which is about the notion that maybe it would be better to kill that part of my self, leave it behind, and get on with living as a male. Years after transition I was all filled up with feminist fury over the way women are emotionally second-classed in American society, as if their opinions really arent valuable, and even in business men just let them play at being in charge while thinking quite differently about it inside their own minds. And so, I wrote a song called Pink Blues which has some great lines once it gets past the rather slow opening harmonies. The harmonies are there to set a base of a male-sounding barbershop quartet backing a lead voice that is not quite male or female. The main vocals in the middle are designed to sound completely female. Of course, its all me, multi-tracked, but thats part of the message I guess. Music has always been the most important emotional expression for me, even beyond my writings, such as my transition diary. But, due to my gender issues and being the shy type in spite of becoming a film director and public speaker on Dramatica story structure theory Ive never enjoyed playing with other musicians. Rather, I just sit at my piano, guitar, or whatever, and record little snatches of song ideas, most of which never get turned into full songs. All of these have ended up on my personal web site in the Music category, and while they date back to micro cassette recordings from the 1970s, only a handful have ever been fully developed. Of course, twenty years after transition, I seldom write songs that have anything to do with gender issue, and favor a more rock/ballad, classical, or experimental music. You can watch all my latest music video compositions here if you are that much into self abuse! Well, that is on Melanies Melodies. Ive just been paying a lot of interest to my music lately, and thought Id share some previously unpublished information about some of my early songs with yall. In an episode of Family Ties which aired in March of 1985, the main character takes a trip back to his childhood where a classic song is played. The song happens to the be theme song to the 1940s variety show, Texaco Star Theatre, which featured Milton Berle. Originally the agreement allowed them to use the song in their show, but didnât include any rights for them when the sitcom hit video and DVD sales. So now years later, Kling Corp is suing CBS. A bit late there arenât we? Turns out Kling had originally demanded 19, 000 for their licensing fee but will now be going after statutory damages for willful infringement. And each infringement can mean a 150, 000 fine. Though due to statute of limitations, if Kling wins, theyâll only be able to collect from the past three years of DVD sales. Well have to wait and see how much money Kling will receive. This story would be SO COOL if Family Ties had actually aired on CBS. Instead, it aired on NBC during its entire run. Ha-Ha! Stick to licking GaGas GoGo boots, Mario! Both Berles Texaco Star and Family Ties were on NBC. Im pretty sure the Family Ties DVDs are put out by NBC, too. How does CBS fit in??? Actually, while the show did air on NBC, it is a CBS owned show. If you goto, you can watch eps of it. Anyway, CBS owns the show, put it out on VHS/DVD.
